How to Restrict Help Desk Access Using IP Restrictions

ProProfs Help Desk allows you to restrict access to specific individuals or locations, such as your company network. You can do this by adding individual IP addresses or an IP range in the “Enable IP Restriction” settings. If a user tries to access Help Desk from an IP address that is not on the list, they will be unable to access the site.

An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a unique identifier used by devices such as computers, phones, and routers to communicate with other devices on a network. You can enter a single IP address or a range of IP addresses.

Consider this scenario— a company wants to ensure that only employees working at their headquarters can access their internal Help Desk.

To do this, they can use the IP Restriction feature in ProProfs Help Desk to restrict access to the IP addresses associated with their headquarters’ network. This way, only employees who are physically present at the headquarters and connected to the company’s network can access the Help Desk.

This can help improve security and prevent unauthorized access to sensitive information.

Benefits of IP restrictions:

  • Improved security: IP restrictions can help prevent unauthorized access to your Help Desk by limiting access to specific IP addresses or ranges. This can protect your sensitive information from hackers, competitors, or malicious users.
  • Enhanced control: IP restrictions can help you control who can access your Help Desk and from where. You can customize your access settings based on your business needs and preferences. For example, you can allow access only to specific departments, locations, or devices.
  • Reduced spam: IP restrictions can help you reduce spam tickets by blocking access to known spam sources or suspicious IP addresses. This can save you time and resources by avoiding unwanted tickets and improving your ticket quality.

How to Enable IP Restriction

Step 1: Log in to your account as an Administrator and go to Settings (1) > General (2).

Navigate to General under Settings

Step 2: Turn "Enable IP Restrictions" on, and additional fields will appear.
